I should now have a full size photo of the previously selection portion of my work. At this new blank work area I then hit Ctrl + V to copy the selection onto the new work area. Next I open a new work area (Ctrl + N) and set the dimensions to the size of my selection, which is 8.5×11″, and give it title Still-life name Top Left or Red Chair TL for example. With the selection, I then copy the selection – Ctrl + C.Ħ. I want to ‘overlap’ my photo both on the right and bottom sides. ![]() I first put this selection box on the top left corner of the photo. Looking at the dimensions of the photo, I decide that a rectangle selection that is 8.5″ wide (look at the rulers on the top and left of the work area) and 11″ deep. I click on the selection icon on the PS palette and click on the rectangle one since that is what I’ll be selecting, a rectanglular shape. For this example, I’m using a letter size paper, 8.5×11″ Looking at the dimensions of the photo and the paper, I see that if I divide the photo into four equal sections I can print four ’tiles’ that I’ll assemble/paste into a print-out that is the actual size of the intended painting.ĥ. Now, I can see the whole photo as it is intended to be painted.Ĥ In the US, a ‘regular’ letter size sheet of paper is 8.5″ x 11″, (if needed and you have it, I sometimes use a legal size sheet, 8.5″ x 14″). I then reduce the image on my monitor screen for easier handling…screen, not the actual photo size. You do this under image, canas size – be sure to restrain the dimensions to keep it proportionate. ![]() After cropping, I then size the photo to the actual size I intend to paint. Holding the mouse down, I can move the dimensions across the photo selecting the best look for the still life.ģ. Then I drag the crop tool across the photo selecting the area I want within the 16×20 area. After selecting the crop tool, I set the dimensions to 16″ width and 20″ height. That is, for this example, I plan to use a 16×20 inch format/canvas. Next, I crop the photo based on the proportions of the intended final painting, drawing, etc. After I set-up my still life, I usually take several digital photos from various angles, adjustments, etc. I assume from your reply that you have Photoshop so I’ll attempt an explanation.ġ. I know there are programs for this function but I don’t want additional software for something that I can do already without the added software. I would love to hear even if this were not possible so I know I would have to do it via gridding. ![]() Would you know of any possibility a person can do at home with his PC and a normal LaserJet printer (HP ColorLaserjet 3500 with 64 MB RAM)? Any help is highly appreciated. I know that I could do it using the grid method and enlarge the line drawing that way but I would like to keep practicing my freehand and using measuring with my compasses, rulers, etc. Why am I asking? I would like to draw a project larger than the size I could print out as a reference. I would like to print a source file which is larger than my printer sheets (I can print max A4 – about letter) on various of my A4 sheets and then “paste it together to make a larger printout. I have the following question to all of you electronic experts out there. I hope the administrator might push me to the correct forum if needed. First of all, I really didn’t know where to post this question.
